This course deals with the shaman's intimate relationship with Nature and how to live together. From ancient times shamans have worked together with the Spirits of Nature for healing, power, knowledge and wisdom. They knew that all the world is alive, and by learning from plants and animals, rocks and mountains, winds and waters, from the Sun, Moon and stars, shamans have helped their people to live in balance with the Universe.

Now more than ever, we need to remember this way of being. As shamans have done for thousands of years, participants on the course will learn how to respect and communicate with the Spirits of Nature, and remember how to work together with the Earth for our mutual well-being and survival.

We will work extensively with the Four Elements that create life on our planet - Fire, Water, Earth, Air. We will talk to them directly to receive a felt understanding of their powers and who they are. By exploring them in both physical and spirit form, we hope to deepen our relationship to each of the Elements and to the way they relate to each other. Coming into connection with them, we will also learn more about the role they play in our lives.

Spiritual Ecology teaches us how all living things - visible and invisible - are connected. Seen from the shaman’s perspective, many current environmental difficulties are related to being out of balance, both with the world and within our selves. By reawakening a feeling of connection, we come to remember that the Earth is our Home, and that we are all part of life.

As well as working with drum-journeys, dance, song and ceremony, much of the course will be spent outdoors. Participants will also have the opportunity to be isolated in Nature overnight if they wish, in a traditional “Utesittning” (Sitting Out) to ask for guidance and personal power.

Participants must have completed introductory course The Shaman's Journey or agreed equivalent. It is necessary that participants can easily journey to the spirit world, and have a clear relationship with at least one spirit helper.
