Shamanic dancing is a doorway to the World of the Spirits. The shaman uses dance to call the Spirits and bring them into our world. This way of working offers an intimate and direct connection, and is one of the most empowering and clear ways of contacting the Spirit world. Shamanic dancing summons the Spirits, inviting them to dance us, as much as we dance with them. In shamanic dance, the main form of communication happens through movement which can be seen as a kind of shamanic journey.
Traditionally, dance is a deeply essential part of sacred spirit practice. Different kinds of dances are used for different purposes and on this course you will try a variety with specific intentions and forms – to celebrate and thank our Spirit Helpers, to get into deeper contact with Nature, to ask for teachings from the Ancestors, to give and receive Healing, and as an essential part of ceremonial acts. We will not be working with trance dance as such, but rather a way of dancing that shifts consciousness while staying in connection and awareness.
Ceremony is another doorway the shaman uses for bringing Spirit Power into the physical world. The essence of ceremony is to work closely together with the Spirits in an open flexible way while holding a firm intention. Both ceremony and dance are forms that focus on creating and holding space so the Spirits can come into this reality. We will be working with different types of ceremonies, both personal and communal. You will learn how to ask the Spirits for guidance to make ceremonies and how to manifest them. As with all shamanic work, the key is the ability to keep your intention strong and communicate clearly with the Spirits.
Dance and ceremony are often combined to create strong spiritual experiences, not only on an individual level but also for communities. The ceremony is the container for power, and dance brings power into the ceremony.
Participants will also have the opportunity to be isolated in Nature overnight if they wish, in a traditional “Utiseta” (Sitting Out) to ask for guidance and personal power.
Participants must have completed introductory course The Shaman's Journey or agreed equivalent, be able to journey well and have a good connection with Spirit helpers.
